Smile Stories: Before and After Smiles...Operation Smile's volunteer medical professionals travel around the world to treat children suffering from facial deformities. Their efforts mean new smiles for thousands of children, including these former patients:
Kohinoor Kohinoor said, “When I was little, the kids made so much fun of me at school. I didn’t want to go back anymore, ever. Now I just stay home with my mother and help with chores.” Kohinoor was only thirteen years old, but she had endured a lifetime of pain. Her family is extremely poor and live in a mud hut with no electricity or running water. Her parents had to borrow the money for the bus fare to the hospital where Operation Smile was. Kohinoor’s parents were desperate for her to receive surgery. She is very glad that Operation Smile came. If it weren’t for Operation Smile, then she wouldn’t have been able to have her lip fixed and start a new life. A life without shame, a life with hope.
